What is Matchday Wordle?

Matchday Wordle is our daily five-letter football word game. Answers can be footballers, clubs, countries or football terms. Easy and Hard are separate puzzles each day, so you can earn points on both. Colour feedback works like classic word games: green is correct and placed, yellow is present elsewhere, and grey is out.

How to play Matchday Wordle

Choose Easy or Hard mode.
Enter a five-letter football answer and submit your guess.
Green letters are correct and in the right place; yellow letters belong elsewhere.
Use the keyboard clues to narrow down the answer.
Solve the puzzle in six guesses to earn 25 points for that mode.

What counts as a finished game

Each mode has one free attempt per day. After a failed attempt, you can reveal the answer or use an optional extra attempt when available. Easy and Hard each award 25 points when solved, for a maximum of 50 points per day.

Strategy tips

Open with a word heavy on common football consonants (R, S, T, N, L).
On Hard, expect less common spellings and surnames — do not burn guesses on joke words.
Lock greens early and rearrange yellows deliberately; avoid repeat greys.
Think clubs and countries as often as player surnames.
Solve Easy first if you want a confidence warm-up before Hard.
Stop after a solve — there is no bonus for flexing leftover guesses.

Example round

You guess a five-letter club. Two letters light yellow and one green. Next guess keeps the green in place, relocates the yellows, and introduces new vowels until the daily answer locks in within six tries.

Data and updates

Daily answers are scheduled by MatchDay Arcade. Dictionaries differ slightly between Easy and Hard.

Finishing a counted game earns 25 points on the daily, weekly, monthly and season leaderboards. Every 10 counted games earns one giveaway ticket. There are no paid boosts.
